Watch as man escapes from police custody
The moment an Edinburgh rapist escaped custody while being led to a police van has been caught on CCTV.
Aaron Strachan admitted to carrying out a horror attack on a 15-year-old girl in the Capital’s York Place in May 2025.
The 21-year-old also attacked a man with a knife the same day and attacked another man with a hammer three days later.
In the video you can see Strachan running away from officers while being escorted into the back of a van outside court. He was caught by police in the city a few hours later.
Other footage has also captured Strachan wandering around Edinburgh city centre stalking the teenage girl before he attacked her.
On July 27, at the High Court in Edinburgh, Strachan was ordered to serve a minimum of five years before he can be considered for parole. He was told by the judge he may never be released.
His name has been added to the sex offenders register indefinitely.
