Glasgow fire RECAP: Glasgow Central to remain closed all week after devastating fire
Scotland's busiest railway station is set to close for the rest of the week after a building in Glasgow city centre collapsed in a fire. Glasgow Central high level will remain shut as safety checks continue at the blaze site but trains will stop at lower level platforms from Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to Glasgow city centre on Sunday night after a fire broke out in a building on Union Street.
The fire has sparked chaos for rail passengers and drivers and brought Scotland's biggest city to a standstill.
The blaze started in a vape shop on Union Street on Sunday afternoon with Union Corner, a B-listed Victorian building, partially collapsing several hours later.
All train services at Glasgow Central have been cancelled and ScotRail has said disruption could last several days.
The rail body has now said the high level station will remain closed all week.
More than 200 firefighters in total have been involved in the effort since Sunday afternoon - with 18 fire appliances and specialist resources dispatched at the height of the incident.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said a “preliminary multi-agency investigation” is now underway to establish the cause of the fire.
On Tuesday, they said the operation had been scaled back with four fire appliances and two high-reach vehicles remaining at the scene.
The spokesperson said that is likely to remain the case or be reduced further across the rest of the day.
