Woman left shaken by path attack

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 41-year-old woman was grabbed by the throat by a man in an unprovoked assault in the Capital.

The incident happened between 7pm and 7:30pm on the cycle path between Boswall Drive Bridge and Granton Road Bridge on Saturday.

The woman was walking in the area when two men who were walking in the opposite direction engaged her in conversation. One of the men then grabbed her by the throat.

The suspects then fled the scene after being disturbed by a man walking his dog.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, 20-25 years old, 6ft tall with a medium build, short brown hair and a chubby face. He was wearing a beige or brown jumper, denim jeans and spoke with a Scottish accent.

The second suspect is described as white, 20-25 years old, 5ft 6in tall with a slim build and brown hair. He was wearing a blue jacket.

A police spokesman said: "This was a random and unprovoked attack that has left the victim extremely upset. Anyone who was in or around the cycle path at the time and witnessed anything suspicious is asked to contact police."
