The city council is to slash its contribution to the revamp of the King's Theatre from 6 million to 2m, with the Assembly Rooms to be given the same figure.
Forget the Assembly Rooms, get the King's Theatre refurbished now.

This is a very bad time to cut back on capital spending, not just for the King's Theatre, which badly needs thorough refurbishment, but also for the city economy as a whole which badly needs the fillip which capital investment can bring. This is a bad, if not indefensible, decision.

It's a shame the King's will miss out but I would rather see spending cut there than in the city schools.

When is the council going to listen to its voters & consultants? The Assembly Rooms project isn't needed or wanted but the refurbishment of the King's is!
Roblx
You cannot reinvigorate or stimulate an ailing economy by cut backs. Public spending cutbacks simply means less jobs, services, material resources, purchases and tax revenue garnished from people/companies who benefit from such spending.
Scot Down under
The King's needs to be done now; the building needs it urgently and the refurbishment will increase its revenue once completed. Postponing will mean that the cost of the work will increase as time goes on.

The council's No. 1 "key capital project" is the tram line. As long as it has sufficient funding, the councillors are happy to let everything else wait.

However . . .
The place is an eyesore. Demolish the King's!

Next up, Lothian tops the table for obesity death rates, with calls to move fatty snacks to the top shelf.

Since we are taking (more) legislation to control how people live their lives, how about bringing down the price of healthy food?

What folk fail to realise is that in order to actually lose weight is gonna take time.
Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear.....
Elaine McLoughlin was praised for cutting her body weight in half.
Elaine's story is fantastic. She should be used as example to others to inspire them too to lose weight. And also as a warning to others who may be following in her footsteps to 26stone.

The media could help by making a much bigger (negative) issue of being fat. Having your feelings hurt, and then feeling obliged to lose weight, is surely better than being dead at 40?

Finally, a 4,000 painting was stolen from the WS Society's Signet Library.
There will be a few in the frame for this.
