Same-sex parents
Tim Hopkins (Letters, 23 May) is rather selective in his advocacy of same-sex parenting. The notion that the lack of a father or mother makes no difference to a child is a view held by very few people in our society.
Of course, any person has the potential to be a good parent but becoming a parent is built on the fact that men and women together procreate children.

I can understand that there is a concern for children when the relationship of their mother and father has broken down, but that cannot mean telling society that a mum or a dad don’t matter.
By creating the notion that marriage is no longer about mothers and fathers we risk doing exactly that. The Free Church of Scotland is therefore to be commended for putting children at the heart of its consideration of marriage.
