Union marks peace centenary
The choir started their new season on August 20 with their annual general meeting and rehearsals resumed its Greyfriars Church, Lanark base on Monday evening.
At the agm the choir’s musical director Leon Reimer presented his programme of music for the new session which includes Rutter’s Magnificat and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.

Hide AdThe choir also announced its participation in Lanark’s Remembrance Day events at the civic gathering outside the Tolbooth on November 11.
A spokesperson for the choir said: “We are indeed honoured to have been chosen to take part in such an important event in our community.
“Thanks to the Rev.Bryan Kerr for the invitation on behalf of the local community.
“Our winter concert continues our celebration of the end of World War One and its centenary by performing a piece by each of the five major European nations involved in the conflict.”
The works to be performed will be: Elgar’s “They are at rest” (Great Britain), Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine (France), Mendelssohn’s Denn er hat seinen Engeln (Germany), Bruckner’s Locus Iste (Austria) and Rachmaninoff’s Ave Maria (Russia).
