Gary Hastie broke the deadlock for Gilmerton before this lead was doubled through Steven Froude. Chris Jones then pulled one back for Edinburgh Caledonian but Froude made it 3-1 when he broke through on goal and produced a composed finish.
With only five minutes remaining, Brian Syne set up a tense finale when he fired Caley’s second of the game but Gilmerton held on to claim a precious three points. Gilmerton’s player/coach Iain Young was delighted his side secured victory at a difficult venue. He said: “Edinburgh Caley are a good side so to come here and win is a great result for us.
“I really think we can do well in the league this year, we’ve got some really good players so we need to keep it going.”
