Work due to start on school’s extension
Kirkliston Primary School will benefit from a £4.9 million expansion, which will include five new classrooms to replace existing temporary units, two additional general purpose rooms and a new PE hall and dining room.
The extension is being paid for by Cala, Walker and Barratt Homes, the consortium building a housing estate at Kirkliston that will eventually see the village nearly double in size. Funding for the school expansion is expected to be paid to the council next summer.

Hide AdGavin Pope, area land director for Cala Homes (East), said: “The works on the school are not undertaken by the consortium – we pay the council and they start work themselves. We would expect it to start in summer 2012.”
He said that the developers have remain committed to continuing to build homes on the site because of the need for family housing in the city.
The full planning agreement in place totals more than £6m and will also see the housebuilders pay for a smaller extension of St Margaret’s Primary School.
