Man hurt as plastic bags go on fire
The 62-year-old was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary suffering smoke inhalation after the fire broke out in his living room at Glenallan Loan on Saturday morning.
Firefighters from the Newcraighall and Tollcross stations extinguished the blaze using buckets of water. The fire started at around 8.25am on Saturday. A spokeswoman said: “The fire occurred in the living room of the house when plastic bins put in front of a gas fire ignited.”

Hide AdMeanwhile, a 63-year-old woman was treated at her home by paramedics after a small fire started in a wastepaper basket.
The fire, which broke out at a house in Quarry Bank, Wester Hailes, at around 1.10pm on Sunday, was put out before crews arrived.
The occupant suffered slight smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment.
Two appliances from Sighthill were despatched to deal with the blaze, which was snuffed out within minutes.
